Day Center Personal Care Attendant & Care Home Caregiver ~ joined our team in 2018
Talofa, my name is Carrie Renee Ponausuia. I was born and raised on a small island in American Samoa. My passion for nursing came during a life changing time in my life. I was a 17 year old mother to my oldest son, and all my nurse’s in ICU & Maternity Ward were very compassionate towards me. And seeing my first-born son made me want to be a better person and have a better future for him (& all his siblings that followed). Being a nurse became my life’s goal, and it still is.
I’ve worked as a CNA for 8 years in American Samoa, in various units (Nursery, Maternity, Medical, Surgical, ICU, L&D, Pediatric, Mental health and Emergency Department). Like all jobs, there were good days and not so happy days. But I wouldn’t trade the memories for anything in life. I also worked as a Hemodialysis Technician for 18 months. Memories gained and cherished throughout my years will be my greatest reward, not to mention the relationships gained from families of various patients who took me as their own. I became their hanai-child as they became my family.
Working at HoʻoNani allows me to have my family as my first priority, making it to our son’s football games, daughter’s band concerts. And to just be a mommy for my babies and wife to my lifetime partner.
Thanks to Karyn for trusting me with 2 of her babies (HoʻoNani Day Center & HoʻoNani Care Home) & allowing me to gain more experience and memories for my book.
